History of the Cavachon Breed. Where Cavachons came from

Cavachons are a cross between a Bichon Frise and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

The Bichon Frise parent came from the Mediterranean region.

They were descended from dogs known as barbets or water spaniels who had been crossed with small white lap dogs.

Bolognese, Havanese, Maltaise, and Teneriffe bichons, which were developed on the Canary Island of Teneriffe and became known as Bichon Frises, were the four types of “barbichons” created.

They are thought to have been brought there by Spanish sailors.

Later, Italian sailors discovered them and brought them back to Italy, where they were prized by the nobility.

Francisco de Goya included the breed in several of his works.

The Bichon arrived in the United States in 1955.
