The Berger Picard was admitted into the American Kennel Club`s Foundation Stock Service in April 2007.
In 2011, the AKC approved The Berger Picard Club of America as the recognized parent club.
In January 2013, the AKC welcomed him into the Miscellaneous Group, and in 2014, the breed standard was established.
He is qualified to participate in all AKC-sanctioned events as of July 2015, when he received official recognition as a member of the herding group.
The Berger Picard Club of America is devotedly attempting to conserve the breed through extensive research and meticulous documentation of known bloodlines.

What the Berger Picard Looks Like
The medium-length, weatherproof Berger Picard`s coat is weatherproof.
When touched, his topcoat should be rough and crisp.
It has the appearance of a double coat and is shaggy.
He has significantly shorter hair on his head, but he does have shaggy eyebrows that give him a wrinkled appearance.
He can have longer, but not excessive, hair on his neck.
While generally having a small wave, his coat is straight.
Soft, curling, or flat coats are undesirable.
Fawn or gray are the two standard hues for the Berger Picard.
