7 Reputable Dog Rescues in Shelby County, Tennessee (Their Adoption Fees)

The Best Dog Rescues in Shelby County

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, approximately 3.1 million dogs enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year.

Even though 2 million dogs are adopted every year, approximately 390,000 shelter dogs are still euthanized every year. Sad.

You can help dogs that end up in shelters/rescues by adopting these dogs.

We have researched and compiled a list of the best dog rescues in your area.

We should mention that our list is not exhaustive because any non-profit organization that takes dogs off the streets and offers dogs second chances deserves to be on our list. However, we do not have the space to include everyone.

If you know of any reputable dog rescue that we have not included on our list, please drop the name of the rescue in our comment section below.

Note that the animal rescues listed in this article did not pay us to include them in the list. We did our research without bias.

As a disclaimer, we will like to advise you to do your due diligence before working with any of the listed dog rescue organizations.

Also, always conduct your research and consult with specialists in your region before making any pet-related decisions.

If you think that rescuing a dog is not for you, and you want to buy a puppy instead, see our article on how much dogs of different breeds cost. Also, see our list of reputable dog breeders in different US states here.

  1. MidSouth Animal Rescue League

  2. Best Dog Rescues in Bartlett

The Mission Statement of MidSouth Animal Rescue League: “The mission of MidSouth Animal Rescue League, as a network of individuals and rescue organizations, is to improve the plight of homeless animals dying in local shelters by providing rescue, shelter, medical care, adoption services, and foster homes. To assist other agencies in investigating incidents of animal cruelty, abandonment, and neglect. To reduce pet overpopulation by advocating spay/neuter programs. To reduce the number of homeless animals entering MidSouth shelters by promoting responsible pet ownership, permanent identification, and the humane and compassionate treatment of all animals.

MidSouth Animal Rescue League is an all breed, 501c3, non-profit organization that prefer to rescue senior dogs and special cases. With 20 years of experience with our beloved ROTTWEILER breed, we try not to ever have to turn any away that need us…especially the seniors that end up in shelters. Currently, we have several senior rottweilers in our hospice foster program. We always need more fosters so that we never have to say NO to them. We have also started a community relief effort specifically in the Red Banks, MS area not far from us, called The Dog House Project, where we go door to door providing dog houses to dogs on chains and other dogs and cats without proper shelter, including straw in cold temps, as well as food and other supplies as needed. We offer free spay/neuter services to those animals and continue to check them all year. To date many have been surrendered from their neglected lives on chains.

MidSouth Animal Rescue League relies on the kindness, generosity, and financial support of people like you so that we can continue to rescue and care for dogs like this one. We are a group of dedicated volunteers who respond to animals in need in shelters, strays, and from individuals. We receive no federal or state funds and are supported solely by private donations.

Many of the animals we save are in need of special medical care or surgery to bring them back to health before they can be placed. Veterinary care, vaccinations, tests, x-rays, medications, spay and neutering, heartworm prevention, flea/tick prevention, worming, food, kennels, grooming, and other supplies are provided for each dog while in our care.

  5. Hearts of Gold Pit Rescue

  6. Best Dog Rescues in Bartlett

The Mission Statement of Hearts of Gold Pit Rescue: “We are a small home-based rescue group. In addition to our foster dogs, we all have families, jobs, and our own dogs.

Our rescue focus is on “quality” and not “quantity” – we are not in a rush to get our dogs adopted. We are looking for the best possible home for each dog, not just any “home!” We are very conscientious about matching the right dog with the right home. One size does not fit all!!

We can be trusted to disclose everything we know about the dog you are adopting, both positive and negative (should there be any). We can offer excellent references that will verify our level of responsibility towards our adopters.

We work closely with a behavioral counselor, an animal communicator and we use top notch veterinarians.

Once we put our hearts and hands on a dog, we dedicate our all to that dog. Every dog we bring into our rescue becomes our mission.

We are very selective about our adopters. We owe it to the dogs — we will not apologize for loving them enough to want them to have the best.

Please don’t be offended if we cannot take every dog you find out there on the streets. But rest assured, the ones that we have taken in are getting our best, We want all of our rescue dogs to leave Hearts of Gold and enter their new homes in the very best condition possible – physically and mentally.

HEARTS OF GOLD PIT RESCUE is a 501(c)(3) organization. All donations are tax deductible.”
